BOE Plans Fundraiser for Musical Instruments
The New Britain Board of Education is inviting residents to a fundraiser to purchase musical instruments for the elementary & middle schools.
“The owner of West Side Tavern (Issac Silva) approached me about wanting to host a a fundraiser for the school board,” said Daniel Davis, board of education member. “He said he has a strong desire to give back to the schools. He wanted all proceeds to go towards the kids.”
Davis then collaborated with School Board President Sharon Beloin Saavedra and they came up with the idea of using the money for instruments for the elementary schools.
“We are trying to sustain our music department and help it grow,” said Saavedra. “We are not able to provide for our kids at the lower levels so that when they get to the high school they are ready to join in at that level. This helps us in ways when we can’t have line items in the budget. It’s wonderful that they are willing to help us out with that.”
Superintendent of Schools Kelt Cooper asked that middle school students be included in the fundraiser.
“There is a great need for middle school students to get larger instruments,” Cooper added.
The fundraiser will take place at The West Side Tavern, 586 West Main St. on Saturday, August 23 at 6 p.m.
Cost is $20 in advance and $30 the day of the event. It is an all you can eat buffet and a cash bar.
Plan to join the New Britain Board of Education to begin the 2014-2015 school year by supporting the music departments at the elementary school level. Help show New Britain children just how much they mean. Even if you do not have children in the elementary school level, you are invited to come out and enjoy good food and a lovely evening.
