Shop New Britain First

As you head out to shop for the holiday this weekend, don’t just go to the malls. Stop and take a look at what New Britain has to offer.

If jewelry is your thing, take a look at Polumbo’s at 438 East St. The New Wind & Fire Expandable bracelets are in stock. They also are featuring a new selection of Danny Kaye pocketbooks and shimmery diamond jewelry.

Another place to see pocketbooks and bags of all kinds is City Luggage, 256 Main St.

They have new fashion handbags, wallets, briefcases, laptop cases, unusual gifts and Christmas stocking stuffers are on sale. Of course if you want luggage, they have a large variety including ones with spinner wheels.

Across the street at Mitch’s Place, 277 Main St. you will find $5 clothes, 20 percent off certain housewares and various Christmas decorations for sale.

If toys is what you are looking for, you won’t have to walk far after Mitch’s. Amato’s Toy and Hobby, 283 Main St., has it all from trains, model cars and planes, to present toys and classic board games.

In fact, Amato’s will have a Holiday Sale & Fun Days on Nov. 30. There will be free activities and refreshments. A Train Tech will be there from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to tune up your toy trains. Up to two can be cleaned and tuned.

Debbie’s Crafts will also be at Amato’s with chocolate covered pretzels, cookies and more. There will also be a raffle to win a free r/c helicopter for bringing donated food for the Food Pantry.

It’s just another short walk down to 91 West Main St to Soso Fly Urban Fashions. Owner Aaron Atwater sells stylish clothes for everyone at great prices.

If you still didn’t find what you’re looking for, it may be time to try one of the three great pawn shops in town. These places have amazing deals on used and new items.

Jaws Pawn Shop at 846 West Main St. just redecorated and now has 2 floors for shopping. Electronics, jewelry, DVDs, TVs, power tools and sports equipment are among the items for sale.

At Tri-City Trading, 23 Main St., there are computers, living room furniture, washing machines, ipods, ipads and about anything else you can think of wanting, available at low prices.

Yankee Peddler, 476 Main St., also has great electronics, jewelry and hard to find items.

If you are planning a party, stop by Avery’s Beverages, 520 Corbin Ave., and get some Elf Elixer or Jingle Juice. These soda beverages are sure to be a hit.

If you need meats and cheeses for that party, Martin Rosols (45 Grove St.) Angelo’s Italian Market (349 West Main St.) or Catanzaro Quality Meats (550 Farmington Ave.) will have what you are seeking.

If eating out is your thing, gift certificates are a great idea or you can just wind down after a long day of shopping and eat at a great restaurants in the City like Main St. Pub (136 Main St.), Roma’s Sports Bar and Grill (382 Allen St.), Angelico’s (542 East Main St.) or the Whinstone Tavern (245 Hartford Rd.)
