Elections 2013 – Mayoral Candidate – (R) Erin Stewart

Erin Stewart, 26, a lifelong resident of the City of New Britain, comes from a family with a respected tradition of community service. She is the daughter of Patricia (Badolato) and Timothy Stewart.

Erin is currently serving on the New Britain Board of Education where she was integral in the selection process of our new Superintendent of schools, Kelt Cooper. She has worked tirelessly over the past two years to put our students first.

Erin has spent many years working towards the betterment of her hometown. She has volunteered countless hours with community organizations in an effort to give back to the city that has given her so much. She is the former Vice Chairperson of New Britain’s Commission on Community and Neighborhood Development, where she headed their planning/budgeting sub-committee. She is a Justice of the Peace, and has also held numerous leadership positions in our city for the last decade. Her family has been lifelong members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church located on South Main Street.

She is a former volunteer project director and co-founder of NBHS’s “Youth Who Care” initiative for the CT Race in the Park. Erin is a former coach of the NBHS Lady Canes junior varsity softball team and she currently advises the NBHS Marching Band Majorettes. In addition, she has served on the Commission on New Britain Youth and Family Services. In 2007, Erin had the distinct honor of being the recipient of the greater New Britain YWCA’s Women in Leadership award for her hard work and dedication to the CT Breast Health Initiative, working to raise money and awareness to help find a cure for breast cancer.

As Mayor, Erin’s four objectives are as follows; Restore fiscal sanity to our city, including immediately hiring a finance director. Working to build and improve the relationship between City Hall and the Board of Education, rebuilding our city’s critical infrastructure, and restoring trust in our government. She will reinstate the Mayor’s open office hours, and take the office on the road to locations throughout the city to hear what our citizens have to say on how we can better manage our precious taxpayer dollars.

Most importantly, Erin is a product of the New Britain Consolidated School District. After graduating from New Britain High School, she continued her higher education at Central Connecticut State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and a minor in Communications. She is currently employed by the Connecticut General Assembly as a Legislative Aide. As a result of her education and experience, Erin has learned personally, academically, and professionally how misguided policies can hurt a community and how well-designed legislation and strong leadership can help. She hopes to use that knowledge to help improve the lives of taxpayers, families and children in New Britain as Mayor.
