Black & Decker Employees Volunteer to Help Community

On Friday, Oct. 19 volunteers from Stanley Black & Decker participated in their second annual Community Volunteer Building Day. The volunteers will be assisting an elderly New Britain couple with some home maintenance and repair work that they can no longer manage on their own.

The Stanley Black & Decker Corporation and its employees have played a vital role in Rebuilding Together New Britain for nearly two decades, helping to improve the lives of the low-income, New Britain homeowners that are served, as well as the New Britain community as a whole. Additionally, for the past eight years, Stanley Black & Decker’s significant funding has made the Year Round Program possible.

Godfrey Parker, a WWII Navy veteran, and Dolores, his wife of 65 years, will be greeting, early Friday morning, a group of dedicated and compassionate Stanley Black & Decker employees, who have plans to tackle several home maintenance tasks, for the them. Godfrey and Delores Parker raised their family of 5 children, here in New Britain, and have always prided themselves on their ability to maintain their New Britain home, where they have resided for nearly 60 years. Now, at 89 & 90, although their spirit is still very much willing, their bodies have said “slow down”! The Stanley crew will be painting, cleaning, installing grab bars, storm windows, a storm door, a CO detector and a programmable thermostat; along with taking care of some electrical work, and even yard work, if the weather allows, for their neighbors in need.

About Rebuilding Together New Britain (“RTNB”): RTNB is one of nearly 200 affiliates of Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading volunteer-based nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities.

Rebuilding Together believes that everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy home. Our focus provides critical repairs, accessibility modifications and energy efficient upgrades to low-income homes and community centers at no cost to service recipients.

Rebuilding Together New Britain has two programs to serve the New Britain community: Rebuilding Day and the Year Round Program. On Rebuilding Day, hundreds of volunteers and the Greater New Britain community join forces to repair and rehabilitate 15-20 homes on a single day, in April, each year. Throughout the year, RTNB completes additional full home rehabs as well as urgent and individual repairs for low-income homeowners in need through the Year Round Program. To date, RTNB has completed over 475 home repair projects, providing an estimated $3,200,000 in improvements to properties within New Britain.
