New Britain Youth Theater to Perform Seussical Jr.

New Britain Youth Theater will present Seussical Jr. on July 27, 28 and 29 at Jefferson Elementary School in New Britain.

Based on the stories of Dr. Seuss, Seussical Jr. takes place in a world where anything is possible when favorite books and characters come to life. When Horton the Elephant goes out on a limb to save Whoville and protect the egg of his neighbor, Mayzie La Bird, adventure begins in the Jungle of Nool. It’s going to take the Cat in the Hat, the smallest of the Whos, and a flock of Seuss favorites to save their world! This “Broadway Junior” version of the script is adapted specifically for young performers and audiences.

Conceived by the Tony Award-winning team of Lynn Ahrens (book and lyrics) and Stephen Flaherty (book and music), along with Eric Idle of Monty Python fame, the Grammy-nominated score features a variety of musical styles, including pop, ballads, gospel, blues, and R&B. The NBYT production will be directed by David B. Sousa.

Seussical Jr. stars children ages 5 through 14 and is appropriate for all ages. The cast of forty children has come together from New Britain, Berlin, Bloomfield, Bristol, Colchester, Cheshire, Farmington, Middletown, Plainville, Somers, Southington, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Willington, Windsor and Wolcott. The production’s venue, at Jefferson Elementary School located at 140 Horse Plain Road in New Britain near the Farmington border, is a 300-seat community performance space with recent renovations.

Seussical Jr. will be performed on Friday, July 27, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, July 28, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, July 29, at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for children, students, and seniors.
