New Britain City Journal

New Britain's Weekly Online Newspaper

Editor’s Note 3-2-2012

I hope Yankee fans have noticed I am writing a column called “The Pinstripe Press” on the sports page. It is all Yankees. Someone told me I should be fair and write about the other team. The problem is my mother told me if I had nothing nice to say, then say nothing at all. Therefore, I can’t write about that team from Boston. If there is a die-hard Red Sox fan out there that is a good writer and would like to contribute a column about them, let me know. I may publish it, but I refuse to write it. There are just some things I can’t be partial about.

We suffered another loss this week as John Pater of “I Remember New Britain” passed away. I met him a couple times. He was very passionate and knowledgeable about New Britain. He will be missed. It has been a tough few weeks for the City as we lost an outstanding young man a few weeks ago as well.

I hate to harp on rising gas prices, but I am very concerned about it. Rising gas prices caused food price to rise last year. Food will have to rise again if gas goes over $5 a gallon. I know President Barack Obama did not cause the gas problems, but he needs to make it a priority or our economy will go backwards. Why don’t we start “Occupy Gas Stations?”

This week’s edition starts off with a look at some new streetscape additions coming. It’s so exciting that our Downtown area will be redesigned. The possible new signage and pavement ideas looked great. The area around the police station will be done first as the station will be finished late summer.

I can’t wait to see this come together. It will be like a whole new City. New Britain is moving on up.

We have a new superintendent of schools. What do you think about the decision?

On Tuesday I took a golf cart ride around Stanley Golf Course. There were people on almost every hole. This good weather we are having this winter should put more money in the City budget. Not a ton of money, but we need all we can get. If you are a golfer, go out on a nice day this month.

Okay, so I do have a Funny Thought from Facebook. The following was found on a sign and someone posted it on Facebook. No idea why the sign read this, but it made me giggle.

“Police Station Toilet Stolen. Cops have nothing to go on.”

I thought it would have made a great newspaper headline.

Until next week, make sure you find something to go on and keep reading YOUR #1 Weekly Newspaper!
