Everyone Loves Ice Cream

Six year olds to seniors all had fun eating ice cream and playing games last week as TRIAD held its annual Ice Cream Social at Arbor Rose.

Jason Gibson, program director at the Boys and Girls Club, brought a group of students who played UNO with the seniors.

“We’ve been coming to this event for a number of years,” said Gibson. “We are part of TRIAD and get involved in most TRIAD events. It is an opportunity to give back to the city and connect with the elderly. It helps bridge that gap and is wonderful.”

Dana Sanders, coordinator of the summer athletic program at Malikowski Circle and Dobek Rd. brought a number of youngsters who eagerly made such favorites as chocolate ice cream with hot fudge and chocolate shots.

“The kids love it,” said Sanders. “They waited anxiously to come. Who doesn’t like ice cream?”

Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry and for the first time Coffee ice cream flavors were available in cups. Toppings included hot fudge, caramel, chocolate shots, rainbow shots and whipped cream.

Residents of Arbor Rose also enjoyed the event.

“This is awfully good,” said MaryEllen Miller, who was slowly eating her ice cream. “What’s not to like about it?”

“Everybody has a good time saying hello to everyone,” said Rosemarie Pocsics. “There is always something to do at Arbor Rose.”

“The TRIAD group does a fabulous job in the community,” said State Senator Theresa Gerratana who greeted people of all ages at the event. “It’s a wonderful event on the dog days of summer. The Boys and Girls Club are also great community participants. There are people from all over New Britain and some from Berlin here.”

Children from the Housing Authority also made and donated jewelry to the seniors in hand made bags.

Officer Carol Zesut, who coordinates TRIAD, said the crowd wasn’t as large as last year, but everyone seemed to be having a good time.
