OIC New Britain Honors Paul Salina at Their Annual Gala for 2018

There are so many heroes in our history books, but New Britain has an individual who for many years has been a local hero for the youth, parents and community of New Britain and to OIC. Paul Salina will be recognized with the highest award an individual or business can receive from OIC on June 1st at the St George Greek Hall at 5 p.m.

The Annual Gala is a great opportunity to recognize and thank individuals and businesses for their contributions to OIC New Britain. The Leon Howard Sullivan Award is given to an individual or business that has been committed to the work of OIC and the community. This award recognizes the hard work it takes to change the lives of people and help them become successful and better citizens in their local community, the nation and the world.

Paul Salina i is a graduate of New Britain High School in 1966 and attended Hartt College of Music at the University of Hartford, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. He then returned to New Britain to begin his teaching career in music education. Many youth, parents, community and business people know Paul Salina as he directed one of the greatest bands in the United States, that travelled to Disney world and Washington, D.C. under his leadership. As the Executive Director of OICNB, I met Paul Salina in 1994 when he was a Housemaster at the high school and worked with him in his administrative role as the high school principal. Salina retired from the New Britain School District in 2003 after thirty-three years of service.

In 2011, July Mr. Salina came out of retirement returning to the New Britain School District as the Chief Operations Officer and currently serving in his seventh year in this capacity.

Yearly he takes approximately 35,000 photos of school and community events. He is an individual who has served on several local organizations such as the Community foundation of Greater New Britain, New Britain high School Foundation, Boys & Girls Club of New Britain, CCARC Foundation, member of the Board of Directors of St. Vladimir’s Theological Seminary Foundation in New York and on the Commission of Lay Ministries and still volunteers at Berlin High School as a member of the UPBEAT Community Team.

IOIC of America’s Founder, Reverend Leon Howard Sullivan would approve of our selection this year, Paul Salina is our local hero and OIC New Britain encourages the community to come out for his special celebration at our 2018 Annual Gala. Ticket cost is $70 per person and can be purchased online at Events (OIC Gala) or checks can be made out to OIC New Britain and mailed to 114 North Street, New Britain, CT 06051.
