Lottery Applications Now Being Accepted
Lottery applications for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade are now being accepted at DiLoreto Elementary & Middle School.
The only intra-district magnet school in New Britain, DiLoreto has an excellent school climate and strong academic push. On a daily basis, it offers a Spanish Language Development Program to students in grades 2-8, which helps build and enhance their Spanish language acquisition. Based on this program implementation, 85% or more of their students entering high school are admitted into level 2 and 3 Spanish courses, making them eligible for advance placement and college credited courses.
The number of seats available fluctuate on a yearly basis because of varying enrollment numbers. The number for this year’s lottery is not yet known, but will be determined prior to the drawing on May 3. On that day, families will be notified in regards to how many students applied and how many seats are available. Those who aren’t selected via the lottery will be placed on a waiting list until October 1.
Last year, DiLoreto implemented a sibling preference for those entering the lottery. This means that existing families will have 1/4 of a greater chance to enter through the lottery, with every fourth seat available per grade level going to a sibling of a DiLoreto student.
Alex Ortiz, Principal of DiLoreto, said he encourages parents to consider entering the lottery, noting that Diloreto has a diverse and multicultural history that offers both Spanish and English Language Development.
“Our school goals are focused on high expectations, accountability, and increasing our students’ academic performance,” said Ortiz. “If you are interested in your child learning Spanish and English, becoming a multicultural DiLoreto Ambassador, and engaging in a rigorous and consistent program from pre-kindergarten through grade 8, then we invite you to enter the lottery.”
Students currently enrolled in pre-kindergarten at DiLoreto will automatically be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2018-2019 school year.
Parents whose children are enrolled at DiLoreto are required to pledge a voluntary minimum of two hours in the school and must attend all parent conferences. They must also promise that their child will maintain good attendance, come to school on time, behave respectfully in school and come to school ready to learn. Failure to do so may result in loss of placement.
Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten lottery applications should be returned to Central Registration, located at 183 Steele St. Applications for grades 1-8 should be returned directly to DiLoreto School. The deadline to submit your application is Monday, April 2 by 3 p.m. The lottery drawing will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at DiLoreto School, located at 732 Slater Road.
