Tree Lighting Set for Tuesday
The New Britain Downtown District and the City of New Britain is pleased to be celebrating the annual lighting of the “City of New Britain Downtown Christmas Tree” in Downtown New Britain, Tuesday, Dec. 5th. The lighting celebration will take place between 4 and 7:30 p.m. in Central Park, on Main Street, Downtown New Britain. The annual highlight of the celebration is the lighting of the City of New Britain Christmas Tree. This tree, which was purchased in 2015, stands over 40 feet tall, and was an investment by the City which will be enjoyed for many years by all those who come to enjoy the Downtown during the holidays.
Features of this year’s event will include “DJ Maciah Clark- M DoT Live23” providing holiday tunes; the “Main Street Children’s Choir” will provide singing of holiday tunes; the YWCA Dance Club will perform a dancing medley from their Christmas show; and complimentary hot chocolate and Dunkin Munchkins donated by Dunkin Donuts on Main Street will be handed out. Members of the New Britain Park & Rec Department will be assisting in handing out the treats. TD Bank has donated Elves hats for the children.
Special guests at this year’s event will include Mayor Erin E. Stewart, who with the North Pole Elves from the YWCA “House of Teens” & “Strive” program will be helping Santa to assist with the lighting of the tree and the handing out of presents to all the good little boys & girls!
