I have dreaded writing this because I realize every time I write a pinstripe press I sound very negative. I think it is because I expect more from this team. The first part of the season was so outstanding.
There really are a lot of positives happening if you look closely.
The starting pitching has been excellent. From CC Sabathia to Masahiro Tanaka to Luis Severino and even Sonny Gray, New York has proven to be among the best in the American League since the all-star break. I feel very confident in all of them.
Most players in the top of the line-up are hitting. Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Didi Gregorius, Gary Sanchez and now Starlin Castro are all consistent.
I am happy to see Aaron Judge get a few days off and hope he can come back strong. He could turn around the season by himself.
If Greg Bird plays well and more players come off the DL, this team could be amazing.
I am still a bit worried about the bullpen as that seems to be our weak point. I don’t have confidence in any of those pitchers. I’m not sure there is an answer for that problem.
Still, the season has another month to go and the Yankees are in a good spot to take the wild card. Anything can happen if you make the playoffs.
We need to make up ground on the Red Sox this weekend. If that happens, who knows, maybe we can actually win the division. Wouldn’t that be exciting.
Keep the positivity and root for the pinstripers.
