New Britain City Journal

New Britain's Weekly Online Newspaper

Editor’s Note 8/17/2017

It is back to school time. When I was a kid I dreaded going back to school. It seems nowadays, kids look forward to it. They get to see old friends and do new activities. It is a great time to be in school.

The New Britain schools have so many activities to look forward to from sports to band to music to robotics and so much more.

On page 1 and page 2 we wrote about things you should know as you prepare to go back to school. I could have written the entire paper about it. Page 2 also includes quotes from residents who have kids going back to school. It is our Question of the Month.

Also on page 1, is a story about those in the movie “Holiday Hours” being filmed in New Britain. I must admit, it is exciting and I was starstruck. I usually don’t get awe struck often, but I felt all giddy seeing Mario Lopez, Melissa Joan Hart and Billy Gardell.

I asked Billy Gardell how he liked New Britain and he said “I love it.” He was so awesome in Mike and Molly. I hope he stars in another sitcom soon as he was such a nice guy.

The area around Amato’s Toy and Hobby was filled with fans hoping to get a glimpse of the stars. Many waited hours to see them. The Amato’s were nice enough to put water and snacks out for the fans.

There was also filming at Miss Washington Diner, CCSU and City Hall.

Those who were in the movie all had great things to say about it. I can’t wait to see so many City residents. It certainly must be a thrill to be in a movie.

I am so excited to see how it comes out. I heard various reports about it being released this year or next year. We will soon find out.

I will keep everyone posted on when to see it whether it is in theaters or on TV.

Here are this week’s two jokes emailed to me.

“Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says Dam!”

“Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can’t have your kayak and heat it too.”

Until next week, keep searching the City for the stars and keep reading New Britain’s Most Trusted Newspaper!
