Editor’s Note 5/18/2015

You will see on this page a column from Democratic Town Committee Chairman Bill Shortell. We are happy to report that there was a miscommunication and that we will get a column. We are hoping that this does indeed mean more news from the New Britain Democrats and that they indeed are trying to serve us all.

On Monday I went to the presentation for the CT Next grant. I am amazed how many groups worked together for this project. It is nice to see the Chamber director involved in things that don’t directly affect the Chamber.

These organizations are helping to move New Britain forward. Many things are done under the radar. I am glad to inform readers of as many programs being done as possible.

Are you going to bike to work on Friday? If I was younger and a biker, I would do it depending on how far it was to work.

As a kid I remember being on Corbin Avenue and crossing on my bicycle and seeing a car coming at me as I was in the middle of the road. It was terrifying. My life flashed before my eyes. Cars should really be careful around bikes.

We have an article on page 3 about the Suburban Woman’s Club. Groups like these do so much for the community. Many are unrecognized. Although there are not as many as in years past, they are important to our community. We are glad to share news about them this week.

On Tuesday, May 23 our the Berlin/New Britain Networking Group (BNB) will be meeting at 2 p.m. at Venskunas Funeral Home, 670 Stanley St. If you own a business in New Britain or Berlin and are interested in attending, please stop by. We do only accept one of each kind of business. You can call me at 860-505-7612 or email me at nbcityjournal@yahoo.com for more information.

Also, this is your last chance to be in ‘Where to Eat.’ It is for restaurants or any food establishments. Ads start at $40. See info above to call or email for more information. It runs once a year so don’t hesitate to be noticed.

I have two jokes this week found on Facebook.

What do you call a person who is happy on a Monday?

Retired.

And second,

I set my DVR to “The Biggest Loser” but it only records Red Sox games.

You know I am a Yankees fan so what do you expect?

Until next week, only watch Yankee games and keep reading New Britain’s #1 Most Trusted Newspaper!
