The Yankees had an okay week and are in second place in the American League East.
Pitchers this time around were not as sharp. Manager Joe Girardi commented that at least two starters – CC Sabathia and Jordan Montgomery – had nothing working, but kept the team in the game.
So far the biggest excitement on the team is Aaron Judge. Everyone is waiting to see just how far he can hit the ball. This guy can hit 35 home runs easy this year. He is just so much fun to watch.
His opposite is Ronald Torreyes. I can’t help liking this guy because he looks so small next to Judge. Torreyes must be 5’6” compared to a 6’11’’ Judge. It’s great to watch.
Greg Bird is such a disappointment so far. He needs to take a step back and re-group. It seems he is mentally unprepared. I feel sad for him.
Once we get past arch rival Red Sox, the Yanks take on first place Baltimore. This stretch is great because by next week we will know how good the Yankees really are.
Can we beat contenders?
I think we can, but everyone needs to step up. A lot of pressure will be on Starlin Castro, Judge and Chase Headley. Right now they are the center of the lineup.
Brett Gardner is slumping and you never know what you are getting from Jacoby Ellsbury.
The Yankees are 7-3 in their last 10 games. I am hoping for the same in the next 10. It would probably put them in first place.
I have to mention one more thing. New Britain’s George Springer is playing great. He has 7 home runs and 13 RBI’s. We have to watch our resident all season long.
Boy, I wish he were a Yankee.
