Editor’s Note 4/27/2017
Isn’t it great that Mayor Erin Stewart is engaged? I wonder if any other City mayor has been engaged or married while in office. A big congratulations to Erin Stewart and Dominic Mutone.
A lot seems to be happening this week. I think it is the nicer weather. I am hoping the cold weather is finally gone. I am so ready for summer.
The City will not be selling the Patton Brook Well to Southington. I have to say I am relieved. I was not in favor of that sale. I do not believe the well could have been used this year with our water shortage. But, you never know what will happen in the future.
The budget was brought before the Council and residents had the opportunity to speak on Tuesday night. I have to scold people. I hear so much complaining on Facebook that people can’t afford to pay taxes. The opportunity comes and hardly anyone shows up. If you want change it is up to you to voice that at the proper time. If not, then stop complaining online.
Use your voice when it matters.
On May 2, the New Britain Lions Club is holding a membership drive. More information is on page 3. I am a member and the group does so much for the community. We have lunch at least twice a month and hear interesting speakers. We have eye clinics and help with warm the children and so many more events. If you are thinking of joining one civic organization, make it the Lions Club. Do not hesitate to show up on May 2 at East Side Restaurant. Just say you are there for the Lions Club and that I sent you. I hear there will be food as well as a beer tasting and entertainment.
Residents love New Britain events. We asked residents for their favorite ones this week. Main Street USA and the Little Poland Festival were some of the ones residents most look forward to. In case you didn’t know, the Little Poland Festival is this Sunday. It promises to be a memorable day. It has great food, vendors, a carnival, dancing and beer. I always wish I was Polish on that day.
I have a short joke from Facebook this week.
“Question: With the current market turmoil, what’s the easiest way to make a small fortune?
Answer: Start off with a large one.”
Unfortunately, that is true.
Until next week, watch your fortune and keep reading New Britain’s #1 Most Trusted Newspaper!
