East Culture Arts Show at Trinity-on-Main
East Culture Arts, Inc. (ECA) and Trinity-On-Main of New Britain will present a Multi-Cultures Celebration of Music and dance from around the world. Fun for all ages! The event will be on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free. A $5 donation is suggested for the group’s expenses. Lena Tan (West Hartford), Producer and ECA president, is the choreographer, skit writer, program director and manager, soprano, performer and dancer. She is a Chemical Engineer working for the State as an Environmental Analyst. Her poems and some short stories were published in China before she came to the U.S. She has a Master degree of Environmental Engineering from University of Hartford, CT. Professional photographer Ben Jordan (Newington) is co-producer of the show and in charge of media.
ECA, a non-profit organization, was founded Lena Tan and others in West Hartford, CT in 2002. It is organized and operated exclusively for charitable and education purposes. Its special purposes and objectives are to increase the awareness and understanding of Chinese-American culture and to promote cultural exchange through singing, dancing and other activities associated with arts.
The show includes professional artist or group: Arte Y Cultura Del Peru (Hartford), India Dancer Yashs DiDi (West Hartford), Dance in the City (Southington), Yihan Chen’s Echo Chinese Ensemble, NZinga’s Daughter (New Britain), Joyce Doty (Southington) and Backstage Academy (Newington). The show also features Victoria Andino (Southington), ECA event coordinator, Choreographer and dancer; Lisa Fan (Glastonbury) ECA vice president, with a Master’s degree of Computer science and Xiaoling Qiu (South Windsor), they are all Computer Engineers, sopranos and dancers.
The show also includes Bianca Bonet (New Britain), Steve Guara (Bristol), Henry Ye (West Hartford), Dr. Songdong Tian (West Hartford), Lei Wang (West Hartford-ECA Board), sisters Jenifer Zheng and Amy Zheng (all of West Hartford), Liring Xu (Simsbury), Cindy Li (Middletown), Huihui Wang (New Britain), Ying Zhang (Massachusetts), Joanna Tang (Avon), and Lisa Wei (Farmington).
Some of its past performances include not only traditional and modern Chinese songs and dances, but also singing and dancing from the Hawaiian, Indian, Spanish, and other cultures. Since 2002, ECA has performed more than 30 shows each year, at events such as the CT Chinese New Year Gala, Dragon Boat Race & Asian festival, CT; Mohegan Sun Chinese Culture event; Yale University; Nanning International Folk Song Festival, Guangxi, China; Shanghai Citizen Festival, Shanghai, and Jiashan show, Zhejiang, China; Manhattan China Town New Year Parade and shows; Culture shows in Springfield, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C.; and at venues such as Yale Green and many universities, schools, senior centers, and nursing homes.
