On July 24, 2016 – the New Britain Fire Department (NBFD) responded at 8:40 a.m. to report of a structure fire at 74 Garry Drive. Engine 4 was first on scene 3 minutes later at 8:43 a.m. The first on-scene company reported a working structure fire in an attached garage of a single family home.

The fire was quickly brought under control in a few minutes and fire damage was contained to the garage with smoke damage to the living area.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Engine companies 4, 2, 8 and Ladder 2 and the Deputy Chief / Shift Commander responded to the fire. Thirteen firefighters fought the blaze.

“Firefighters quick actions prevented spread of the fire to the adjacent living area”, stated Fire Chief Thomas Ronalter.

The New Britain Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the fire to be accidental.

Residents are reminded to “Get Out and Stay Out” when there is a fire in their home.

On Thursday, July 14, 2016 – at 10:20 p.m., the New Britain Fire Department (NBFD) responded to report of a structure fire at 9 Grove Hill Street in New Britain. Engine 4 was first on scene 4 minutes later at 10:24 p.m.

The first on-scene company reported a working structure fire with visible fire and smoke on the front porch of the 2 1/2 story wood frame building.

The large house was vacant and had no occupants. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Engines 4, 2, 5, Ladder 2 and the Deputy Chief / Shift Commander responded to the fire. Thirteen firefighters fought the blaze.

The fire was declared under control 10 minutes after fire department arrival.

“The first on scene company did an excellent job in stopping the fire from rapidly extending into the building interior and causing more severe damage “, stated Fire Chief Thomas Ronalter.

The New Britain Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause of the fire.
