Editor’s Note 6/17/2011

Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot of news happening this week? I’m sure I’m not the only one who wishes there was more hours in the day. This week our edition is jam packed with as much news as I could fit. At least people can’t say nothing is happening in New Britain. Costco continues to be a hot topic. Everyone in the City seems to have a strong more...

How About Planning a Tag Sale?

Did you ever look at photos in magazines and wonder where did the homeowners put all of the books, china, exercise equipment---“the clutter” in the house? Everything might be hidden away in another room, or maybe the homeowners got organized and had a tag sale and now are celebrating being clutter-free. If you live in a disorderly environment, your emotions can more...

Another Good Sign for the City

This week we reported on a new tenant at the Raphael Building. This story is more than just a building being refurbished and a new business opening. It is a sign that things are changing. Good things are happening in New Britain. People want to be in downtown New Britain. For years people said there was nothing to do in downtown. People complained it was dirty and more...

Noticing Lumps and Bumps on Your Dog

If you own a small dog, and you’re anything like me, then no doubt your pet is on your lap while you’re driving your car or he/she is often cuddled in your lap while you’re watching TV, or while you’re lovingly petting them. This is something they delight in, and I admit, it’s something that gives me a good feeling, too. It may also be a time when you can notice more...

Editor’s Note 6/10/2011

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays of the year. If nothing happens to keep the “Big Boom” celebration and fireworks alive, I will truly be disappointed. I will head to Hartford for their fireworks celebration, but it will not be the same. My annual picnic, built around the celebration, will be canceled. I hope your plans are better for the more...

I can’t stop talking about how wonderful Monday’s parade was. I’m not sure I have ever enjoyed a parade more. The crowd was good, the music and ensembles were fantastic and the weather held out for us. The gun salute was loud, but made everyone stop for a few seconds. Hopefully, it helped them remember why there was a parade. We have two photo pages of the event more...

Memorial Day Important to City

Memorial Day Important to City

Due to lack of funds, the City may not be able to afford a Memorial Day Parade next year. It will be a shame as we need to keep the remembrance of our veterans any way we can. The day, however, should not be just about a parade. We should keep in mind the things veterans have done for us and those that are now serving are doing for us. For some of us, we need a more...

On Monday at 6 p.m. is the Memorial Day Parade. This year I would love to see the attendance high. I was there last year and was disappointed. As a youngster in New Britain the Memorial Day Parade was one of the highlights of the year. It is good, clean fun and features music from such bands as our own New Britain High School Marching Band. This year it is more...

NBCJ to Offer Mayoral Views

Another hat has been thrown into the ring this week. Former New Britain Mayor Lucian Pawlak has announced he wants to be the next mayor. Now we have three Democrats in Tim O’Brien, Paul Catanzaro and Pawlak. If we ever get a Republican, we will have at least four. That will make for a great political season. Opposing views mean residents can really see the more...
