Captain Matt Tuttle will be buried with full honors. A bus will transport officers, dispatchers and officials to the funeral home, to the church and to the interment. The Honor Guard will be present, Taps will be played, a bag pipe will play appropriate traditional police funeral music, and a salvo of firearms will be fired as a salute. We have requested that officers more...

I hope everyone had the chance to check out our website at www.nbcityjournal.com last week. We had a problem with our poll question function so some answers were deleted. Feel free to vote again. A new question will be out soon. It was nice to see temperatures in the 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday after months of complaining about snow and freezing temperatures. Don’t more...
Streetscape Project Big Bonus
By Editor at April 29, 2024 | 7:00 am |
Most people in the City seem to believe the Busway in New Britain is a good thing. There are, however, some that don’t. Many see it as a waste of money. In New Britain, that Busway project will make a huge positive impact. This week the City announced it received a $212,000 federal grant that will work to find ways to improve downtown. Without the Busway, it more...
Civil War Celebration Meaningful
By Editor at April 22, 2024 | 12:34 pm |
It was great for the City to see a statewide celebration like the Civil War Commemoration begin here. New Britain played a large role in the civil war. And we honor it everyday with the Civil War monument at Central Park. There is nothing, however, like seeing reenactments right in our own backyard. Residents had the chance to see how soldiers lived and more...

I hope those of you that have access to the internet, have checked our website at www.nbcityjournal.com. This week’s poll question was, “What line item would you like to see money added to in the budget?” The answers so far are very interesting. Almost 82 percent would like to see no money added. About 12 percent want more funds for education. About 6 percent more...

To Cut or Not to Cut?
By Robin Vinci at April 15, 2024 | 7:00 am |
Now that Mayor Timothy Stewart has submitted his 2011-2012 budget, the real fight is set to begin. Some people don’t want all-day kindergarten cut. Some want to keep teachers. Some people want to have fireworks. Others don’t want to see city staff or activities trimmed. Everyone seems to want to save something, but hardly anyone has any ideas of where to cut. As more...
Mayor Stewart’s Budget Speech
By Mayor Stewart at April 13, 2024 | 9:07 pm |
To the Members of the Common Council: I bring before you my eighth budget as Mayor of New Britain. Each year it seems this message becomes more difficult as the financial challenges of an urban community in a stagnant economy outpace our resources. This year, the picture is even gloomier as the storm clouds gather with predictions of “doomsday” budgets by more...

For weeks now I have been looking forward to telling our readers about our new and improved website. I’ve had to hold my tongue about it longer than I wished. It is not complete, but it is up and looking pretty good at www.nbcityjournal.com. It has a lot, but not all, of the articles here in the newspaper. It also has polls, weather, twitter news and a place for more...
Group Needs Non-Profit Status to Help Dogs
By Editor at April 8, 2024 | 7:00 am |
After listening to the New York Bully Crew speak recently at the dog pound, it became abundantly clear that if dogs from the City are to take another step forward, the Friends of the New Britain Animal Control or a similar group need to become a 501c3. The City does not have the money to spade or neuter dogs, keep dogs for a long period of time or fundraise. The dog more...
