I think there should be an automatic rule that for every grapefruit you eat, you lose a pound. I’ve been eating half a grapefruit for breakfast every morning. This new rule would make it easier to eat them. As you can clearly see my diet is going strong. Weekends mess me up a bit, but most of the time I am on track. I did have chicken parmesan at The Bistro at more...
The Grasshopper and the Ant
By Nicholas Mercier | CPOA member at April 13, 2012 | 9:30 am |
Just recently the Common Council of New Britain decided to take $10 million dollars from the Water Department, a quasi-governmental enterprise that handles the water delivery in the City of New Britain. The reason for the transfer was to close an alleged $10 million budget deficit in the municipal budget. I say alleged because at the time the Council had not yet received more...
Why Some State Reps Visited NB
By Editor at April 13, 2012 | 9:15 am |
This past week we saw the two opposing sides of the New Britain to Hartford Busway Project hold press conferences to voice their arguments. If you notice the two political figures opposing the Busway are from Southington and Bristol. These two representatives did not come to New Britain because they care about our City. They do not represent anyone in our more...

None of us in New Britain were the big winners of MegaMillions so it looks like work is the way to go. It was nice dreaming though. I had a great plan for what I was going to do if I won. I was going to buy a large building on Main St. and make it into a 1950s decor movie theatre using all the modern amenities. It would have been a showplace. I was going to be part of more...

By Robert Scalise, Jr. | Attorney at Law at April 6, 2012 | 8:00 am |
Many power of attorney and health care proxy documents that were created years ago should be revised now as a result of a federal medical privacy law. This change in weather from cold to hot and then hot to cold is going to make everyone sick. I’m not sure what month it is anymore. I had my first iced coffee of the year last week and this week I am back to hot coffee. I’m not sure if coffee is part of my diet, but there is no way I am missing iced coffee season. I may give up Frappe’s at McDonald’s though. more...

Today, March 23 is my birthday. No, I will not reveal my age, but I am over 29. LOL! I decided what better way to start than going on a diet. I actually began it on Monday. I’m not much for dieting. I love diet soda, chocolate, chips, ice cream and most everything that is not good for me. Besides eating healthier, I am learning to drink water and eat a small cup of more...
CPOA is Tax Watchdog
By Nicholas Mercier | CPOA member at March 23, 2012 | 8:15 am |
The old saying goes, “Nothing is certain in life except death and taxes.” While this is true, I would like to point out that concerning death we have been making marvelous progress with medicine these past few decades. Taxes, on the other hand, are not going away any time soon. Taxes are important; they allow government to provide us with crucial services, such as more...

Stewart Responds To O’Briens Remarks To the Editor: After months of reading and watching the new administration’s distorted public relations campaign, I can remain silent no longer. An intense amount of criticism has been levied against me and my administration for allegedly leaving the city with an enormous financial deficit with respect to this year’s budget. more...
