Last weekend was surely a busy one. From the fishing derby to the rose garden spruce-up to St. Lucian’s Pierogi & Butter Lamb sale to Amato’s Toy & Hobby Train Sale, I went. It was fun and exhausting.

I’m not sure how the fishing derby finished, but when I was there only 2 of the 105 trout were caught. I saw several small blue gills. It didn’t seem like fish were jumping. The kids, however, seemed to be having a great time. It was packed. I like the event at Stanley Quarter Park much better than at Martha Hart Park.

There were tons of people helping at the rose garden. From little ones to teams from CCSU, people came to help out. It is great to see the community come together.

I bought my meat pierogies at St. Lucian’s. I was too late for cheese babka. Next time I need to go earlier.

At Amato’s it was crowded. Free hot dogs and hamburgers bring in a good crowd. It did look like people were buying and that is great for our economy.

I walked over 8,000 steps that day. It was fantastic.

How did you like the bizarre weather? It was 70’s one day and we had some snow in the state the next. Go away winter. We had enough of you.

So I see the City will now have to pay its employees $10.10 an hour. This will only really affect the parks and recreation department. See the cartoon for what it will mean. It may sound wonderful, but it means less jobs. Too bad it is only a ploy by certain council members. They just don’t get it.

Mayor Erin Stewart has pretty much put a freeze on spending at City Hall. It is necessary, but I think she should have done it months ago.

Also for the record, the Mayor is not closing the senior center. There has been a rumor that she is, but it is not true.

A lot of people are upset over the Mayor’s proposed budget that shows a tax increase. I believe it is now the council’s job to reduce it. This increase is not yet written in stone. Changes may take place. It is also possible, if our state representatives work really hard, to get more funds from the state.

Before anyone gets too upset, let’s wait until the budget is approved in June. It may be very different than what was proposed.

I do not want to see a tax increase either. But, if you read this paper, you understand why it may be necessary.

I have a good joke for you this week.

Man: How’s the diet going?

Woman: Not good. I had eggs for breakfast.

Man: Scrambled?

Woman: Cadbury’s.

Yeah, that would ruin the diet.

Until next week eat your eggs scrambled and keep reading YOUR #1 Most Trusted New Britain newspaper!
