Come celebrate with us. April 13- 19 is National Library Week. It is a week packed with plenty of great programs, free, and for every age. On Monday, April 14, 7 p.m., there will be a musical performance by the talented and entertaining a cappella group, The Hartford Wailers. Sample their music on Youtube.com. A cappella, is an all vocal performance without instruments.
For the whole family, Jester Jim will bring his comedy, balancing and juggling to the library on Wednesday, April 16, 2 p.m. Teens can learn to make cheesecakes and dissect computers. At an Improv Workshop, April 15, 4:30 p.m., they can learn about comedic timing and thinking on their feet with the Great Make Believe Society. For aspiring artists, on Saturday, April 19, 10:30 a.m., adults are invited to sign up for the Basic Drawing Workshop with local master artist, Ed Rosado. This is a hands-on art workshop in charcoal and pastel for beginners.
During National Library Week there is a special day for library workers: National Library Workers Day, Tuesday, April 15. It a day set aside to acknowledge and recognize the valuable contributions and work made by library workers. For this, we need your help. Is there a library worker who stands out in your mind for an extremely well done job or excellent customer service? Let us know. I invite you to nominate your favorite worker to the National Library Workers Day Stars web site (http://ala-apa.org/nlwd/?page_id=4), sponsored by the American Library Association-Allied Professional Association. All you have to do is finish this sentence online “This nominee is a Star because.” Or stop by the library and tell your favorite librarian or staff member how much you appreciate what they do.
But it’s not only during this week that there are great programs; the whole month is jammed packed with activities. There are movies, story hours, computer classes and book discussions, plus more.
On April 3, 6:30 p.m., the New Britain Youth Theater will perform The Tale of Snow White.
The Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale kicks off with a preview on Wednesday, April 2 and runs through Saturday, April 5. A roomful of books will be sold for bargain prices.
Looking to improve your financial future, come to the Financial Fitness Checkup Workshop on Monday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 7 p.m., New Britain native, teen author, Jody Casella, visits to talk about her new book, Thin Spaces, and her memories of growing up in New Britain. Learn how to clean with safe products at the Environmental House Cleaning Workshop, Monday, April 21, 6:30 p.m.

Lives change @ your library! Think about it – what importance does the library play in today’s world? How has it affected your life? Where would you be without a library? Even if you didn’t use the library, you still benefit. Libraries improve people’s quality of life and in turn, improves the community. We all benefit.
