Weighing Options on Magnet School

Although having a magnet school in New Britain is only speculative at this time, it will require much discussion.
School boards members will be forced to weigh what is best for the City as a whole, with what is best for our students?
On one hand, think of the prestige it will bring the city to have a brand new state of the art facility, students from all over the state will attend. It will definitely be a plus.
On the other hand, how many New Britain students will be denied the opportunity of going because other cities students have to attend the school.
New Britain presently, is teaching 54 students in its health academy. It is something City residents should be proud to have here.
If fewer New Britain students can attend it, our own population would suffer. But then again, we don’t really know if the number of City students at the academy would grow?
These are only a few of the questions the subject will bring.
This week, the New Britain Board of Education began deliberating a few of the issues an inter district magnet school requires.
Expect discussion to be ongoing. A lot needs to be figured out and weighed before making an informed decision.
This is just the beginning.
