The following candidates are running for Ward Aldermen. Each had the opportunity to submit a 200 word biography and a photograph. Each profile is unedited and presented in alphabetical order. Next week we will present candidates who are running for Aldermen at Large.
My name is Don Naples. I’m running to give something back to my home town and to help restore pride and respect for public service in New Britain. This can be done through transparency and responsible, “smart” spending. The past two years have been a fiscal disaster for New Britain. The City’s bond rating has been lowered, several no-bid contracts have been issued, taxes and fees have increased for many residents, despite the Mayor’s repeated claims that they haven’t. Draconian cuts and consolidations of City departments have severely stressed the remaining City employees. Federal and State funds are greatly reduced compared to past years, making funding for services even more critical in 2013 and beyond.
I’ve listened to voters’ concerns while walking door-to-door in Ward 4. In addition to the usual tax, trash, pothole and blight issues, a surprising number of people are fed up with misleading statements from the Mayor’s office and partisan voting on the Common Council during the past two years. New Britain deserves better than that. Being an independent (unaffiliated) voter allows me to address issues based on their merits and not simply vote along party lines.
Erin Stewart is by far the more qualified person to lead our City. I’m honored to be part of her 2013 team. I ask for your support on November 5th. We can make a difference!
