When I thought about this week’s column and the Yankees none of my thoughts were good.
Who wants to write about a team that has lost its last five games and is 3-7 in its last 10?
Seriously, I don’t think I have a good thing to say about the Yankees right now. I am disgusted.
So, I am going to focus on who I think deserves the mid-season MVP awards.
American League MVP – Chris Davis.
Wow, has he been a surprise. I never expected to see his name on the top of my list. Right now he is batting .332 with 31 home runs and 80 RBIs. He may have a legitimate shot at breaking the real home run records. I hope they are checking him for steroids so there are no doubts in case he breaks any records.
National League MVP – Carlos Gonzalez.
Gonzalez has 22 home runs, 60 RBI’s, .286 batting average and 15 stolen bases. He is the major reason the Rockies are only 2 games out of first place.
American League Cy Young – Yu Darvish.
I just really like this guy. He has a 2.78 ERA, 151 strikeouts and is 8-3.
National League Cy Young – Matt Harvey.
He leads the league with a 2.0 ERA, 132 strikeouts and is 7-1.
Surprise team of the year - Boston Red Sox
I don’t expect them to lead at the end of the year, but you have to admit they have had a spectacular first half. If I overlooked the Sox it would be from bias.
Manager of the Year – Joe Girardi.
Don’t kill me. I just think the Yankees have suffered more injuries on a team than anyone and he has still has given the Yankees a chance to compete.
Rookie of the Year – Yasiel Puig.
He has only played for a month, but what is not to like about this guy?
He is batting .436 with 7 home runs and 4 stolen bases. I expect the second half of the season to be good for him. The Cuban born outfielder is the guy everyone is talking about.
