The two largest populated events that have taken place in New Britain in the past ten years appear to have happened in last 12 months.

In October over 5,000 people turned out for the Halloween Safe Zone Event in downtown and on Sunday nearly 8,000 people visited Broad St. for the Polish Festival.

This is a great sign that things are turning around in our City thanks to residents. Neither were City events, but rather begun by residents who care about our great City,

Congratulation Matt Dabrowski on a Festival well done!

I specifically went hoping to grab pierogies, but instead I had some awesome Thai food and Italian ice. It was a fun multi-ethnical event. Polish traditions were at the core, but other nationalities played a role and their role will get bigger next year.

There truly was something for everyone.

There are so many good people in this City. Every day I meet a new one. It’s really important to realize that not everyone in this City is only after something like your vote. Many do things because they have lived here their whole life or have come to feel New Britain is where they want to spend the rest of their lives.

On page 2 is a story on the St. Thomas Aquinas Reunion coming soon. Gary Naples and Zeena Tawfik are just two of the people who are organizing it and trying to make a difference. Of course, I feel special about it because I graduated from Aquinas. Just don’t ask which class. I hope to see many of you there.

Last year Tom Silverio and Gerry Amodio organized a similar event for Pulaski High School graduates. It was a huge success.

If you look around, you will see amazing people doing amazing things in this City.

I also do want to remind residents that a $25,000 reward is still out there for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Mayor Tim O’Brien and/or his co-hort Phil Sherwood. I am told a lot of information has been received, but more is appreciated. I didn’t want those two to think we had forgotten about them.

My joke this week has a lot to do with a saying I’ve heard many times in my lifetime. Well not quite this way, but you’ll understand I hope.

“If one door closes and another one opens, (long pause) it probably means your house is haunted. Get out!”

I guess doors opening mean different things to different people. You have to have a weird sense of humor to get the jokes that make me smile.

Until next week, look out for ghosts and keep reading YOUR Most Trusted New Britain Newspaper! Although we are still your #1 Weekly newspaper too!
