Pinstripe Press

Even though the Yankees lost two in a row to Tampa Bay, I was still rather impressed to see them take two out of three from Toronto last weekend.
There has been so much press touting Toronto as the team to beat in the American League East. I wanted to see if New York could keep up with them. It was very positive knowing the Blue Jays were very beatable.
This weekend the Jays come to New York. We need to use the confidence we gained last week to win this series as well.
Robinson Cano is still on a roll batting .333 with 6 home runs, 14 RBI’s and 13 runs scored. Despite biogenesis allegations, Cano has proved he is the team leader. It is a contract year which always bodes well for the team. If he can keep it up, I will already be pushing him for MVP.
Brett Gardner got his first stolen base this week. I’m not sure he is 100 percent. It may just be early season jitters. Hopefully, he is coming around.
I’m a bit worried about Kevin Youkilis and hope to see him back in the lineup soon.
The latest from Yahoo sports is, “1B Kevin Youkilis was scratched from the Yankee lineup—he was in the cleanup spot—less than an hour before the series opener with the Rays on Monday because his lower back tightened after taking batting practice. He left a loss at Toronto on Saturday in the sixth inning complaining of a sore back and did not play on Sunday. Youkilis is batting .295. Manager Joe Girardi said, “It might be a couple more days” before he returns.”
I sure hope by the time you read this that he is back. He has been a consistent bat in our lineup.
May will soon be here and at least Curtis Granderson will be back. I think Ichiro Suzuki should be the odd man out as Vernon Wells has played very well.
Mark Teixeira will be a late May addition. His return cannot be soon enough. I have no faith in Boston castoff Lyle Overbay.
