Area brides to be and other event planners have a new intriguing option with a Hardware City taste.
Angelo’s Market, a longtime New Britain favorite for Italian specialties and catering, is expanding its special event services into the Farmington Valley.
Weddings and Events by Angelo’s has reached an agreement to be priority caterer at the historic Sarah Porter Memorial Hall in Farmington. Owned by the First Congregational Church, the elegant venue is located on the ground of Miss Porter’s School and has a capacity of approximately 200 people.
“We’ve done a number of events there and they approached us about having a longer term relationship,” said Joe Tropea, longtime owner of Angelo’s on West Main Street.
“We held an open house there back in September and it went very well for us. We’re very excited about the prospects there
“We’re really looking to expand the catering and special event portions of our business and this is a great way for us to do it,” he added.
The Farmington hall has been a venue for weddings, showers, corporate functions, dinner dances and other special events.
“We’ve done catering all around the state, but we are striving to expand our relationship with this location,” said Tropea who has Angelo’s since 1993. “We moved to our current location in 1995 and I worked for Angelo’s for 10 years before I bought the business. It goes by fast, very fast,” he added.
Despite the new focus on the venture in Farmington, Tropea remains loyal to New Britain.
“We’ve been contacted by chambers of commerce from neighboring communities telling us that they’d like a store like Angelo’s in their town, but we’ve been in New Britain for so long it would be very hard for us to leave,” he said.
“We’ve been welcomed by the community in Farmington and we’re looking forward to expanding our catering and special event business there, but we continue to serve customers in the New Britain and around the state from our location here,” Tropea added.
Among his regular clients are Stanley Works, Grove Hill, the UConn Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital. “We have so many loyal customers and very fortunate,” said Tropea.
This time of year is an especially busy time for Tropea and his 10 employees. “We have people picking up platters and orders for holiday parties every day. We also do holiday gift baskets. It’s a very busy time of the year for us,” he added.
Still, he’s looking forward to expanding his enterprise. “We’ve just launched a new web site MyAngelos.com that details our catering and special event services,” said Tropea. We also have our AngelosMarket.com.
The sites contain details about menus and other offerings. As Tropea said, Angelo’s “ can handle everything – soup to nuts!”
