Editor’s Note 6-29-2012

It’s no secret that people who do not live in New Britain think badly of our City. This week I met one of those people who truly irritated me.
This person, who did not tell me where she was from, said she would not go to fireworks in New Britain. She said there are “shady people” who go there. She only brings her children to the Newington fireworks because it is much safer. She stated she avoids the Hartford fireworks as well.
I was speechless. I kept my mouth shut, but it wasn’t easy. She asked me if I had ever gone to them in NB. I replied yes. She said “well then, you know what I mean.” I did not respond.
Maybe, I’m just stupid, but I don’t know exactly what she meant. There are some “shady” people everywhere. New Britain is no exception, but the crowd is not much different than in Newington. I have been to both. And both are safe.
New Britain is like Rodney Dangerfield. We get no respect.
I sure hope this woman does not use our wonderful hospitals when she is ill or go to our university. Bashing New Britain is not acceptable.
New Britain is diverse and that makes us special.
This week bullying was in the news spotlight as a bus monitor was caught on tape as she was bullied. She is like New Britain. She just took it. We should not just take it any more. Next time this happens to me I know I will not remain quiet.
Speaking of our fireworks, most of you will be happy to know they are going on this year and will be bigger than ever. It will be the biggest display in the state. Go New Britain!
It is all thanks to various groups and organizations who donated to the Great American Boom. Thank you all!
I went to another great event in New Britain in the Pope John Paul II Festival. It was great and safe for the family. I love their cheese pierogies. I have never had better anywhere.
Make sure you check out our back page. These are the stars I spoke to you about last week. A lot of people helped make this a success. Read them all.
Do you need something to lighten the mood this week? How about my weekly joke?
A wife wakes up from a dream yelling “hurry my husband’s home!” and the husband wakes up and jumps out the window.
Now, which one would you say is guilty?
Sounds like both to me.
Until next week, be careful what you say after to wake up and keep reading YOUR #1 Weekly Newspaper!
