Every week I say I am excited about this issue, but I think this week’s edition of the New Britain City Journal is better than ever.
I hope you like our page 1 design and story. I went to that streetscape meeting and was very impressed. This project has the ability to change everything about our downtown. There will be a public hearing in May and I suggest you attend. Let your voice be heard.
I believe the continuity of the project to be important. If all the areas look alike in someway, we feel the entire downtown is connected. That is especially important along that long Route 72 bridge.
The ride around the City showed all the differences on each street. Even little things like the sidewalk paving will be alike. Work will begin later this year and I will keep you informed every step of the way.
I was brought up to be proud of our City. This project is one of several that will make many people feel that way again. New Britain has had a slump, but we are on the way back so watch out world!
On page 2 you must read a feature on Julie Swan. She volunteers to help so many good causes. It is residents like her that make New Britain a great place to live.
We are also excited to bring you a nice feature on page 3 in “What’s In a Name?” It is meant for each of us to learn about the City. We will feature a street, building, park or other place in New Britain. It’s great to understand how each received its name.
We are always looking for new ways to improve our paper. We plan two new additions next week so don’t miss it.
There are some new scams out there and they are focusing in on seniors. Read page 6 for more details.
If you get the chance, go to our Facebook group or our website at www.nbcityjournal.com and check out the New Britain City Journal song we created. It’s a hoot!
The Sports Journal this week’s takes a look at the New Britain High School baseball team. They have a great benefit coming. Be sure to attend.
Maybe, now you understand why I am so excited about this edition of the paper.
My Funny Thought this week from Facebook is another true, but funny one.
“What does it take to get a sweet 80-year-old lady to say the F word?
Get another sweet 80-year-old lady to yell *BINGO*!”
I can see you ladies at St. Joseph’s Church and the VFW saying how true that is. Naughty, naughty.
Until next week, keep your language clean and keep reading YOUR #1 Weekly Newspaper!
