Editor’s Note 12-9-2011

A few weeks back I wrote about when New Britain High School played Pulaski in football on Thanksgiving.

I neglect to mention that I received an email from Alexander Aponte telling me in 1970 Pulaski tied NBHS and in 1971 and 1972 the Canes lost to Pulaski. He said the class of 1973 was the first class never to have beaten Pulaski and that was a big deal.

I thought that was very interesting and wanted to pass it along.

Keep sending me interesting information and I promise to eventually pass it along.

I finally got my Coca Cola Christmas village and Christmas tree up. Did you finish yours?

Every year when I start wrapping presents I am out of something. This year I ran out of tape. Wrapping is never an easy chore for me. My wrapping is pretty bad as well. Family members easily can tell which presents are from me. Martha Stewart I am not.

This issue of our paper has a lot of holiday items. People seem to really be in the spirit this year.

Our website question at www.nbcityjournal.com is “What do you like most about the holidays?” There are quite a few answers, but you are limited to one so choose wisely.

Have you entered the NB Parks and Recreation Holiday Decorating contest? It is taking place on Facebook. Just “like” the New Britain Parks and Recreation page and there is information on how to enter.

We plan on publishing the winning photo in the New Britain City Journal on Dec. 23.

Also, on Dec. 23 we are once again running a Christmas tree and you can put your name in an ornament for $8. It is a cool greeting. You can say hi to someone or advertise your business. Send us a check with what you would like your holiday ornament to say.

I want to congratulate all the NBHS students who were named to the honor roll. See page 6 for a complete list of names. Do you know someone in it?

HALS and Chamberlain Elementary Schools received nice honors this week. Our schools are making progress. We should be proud of what we have.

See page 7 for a story about a new business which opened on West Main St. Five Star Grocery and Deli has great potential. Check it out if you can.

I found two funny thoughts this week right here in New Britain. One was found at Sahadi’s Hotties. It read “Eat lunch safely. Use condiments”.

The second is more of an interesting thought. It was found at the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection. It is “What is missing from ch rch?”

I thought that was kind of neat. “Neat”, do people still use that word or am I showing my age?

Until next week keep up the holiday spirit and keep reading YOUR #1 Weekly Newspaper!
