Editor’s Note 10-14-2011

As baby boomers continue to age and the over 60 population grows, it is curious to see numbers at the senior center drop. This week we featured the senior lunch special on page 1. Anyone over 60 can get a great lunch for $2.50. Why aren’t more people taking advantage of this program? In this economy numbers should grow.

Hopefully, after today more people know about it and use the service.

How was your week? Did you do anything special on Columbus Day? Did you know Columbus Day is Thanksgiving in Canada?

Columbus Day was celebrated very nicely in New Britain. A good crowd showed up to our monument on the corner of Main/Broad and North Streets. See page 1.

Several people told me they saw Christmas decorations in stores already. I saw some in September. I love the holiday season and am ready for it to start. Halloween has been growing rapidly as one of my favorite holidays. It’s a good excuse for me to watch horror movies. I love to be scared, but I hate gore.

If you want some fun this holiday season, be sure to see “Timeless Tales at Fairview Cemetery”. It seems to have something for everyone. Read about it on page 11.

This week we have a lot more candidate information. I hope you are reading them. It will make voting easier. We need to vote the right people into office. This year is more important than ever. See pages 6-7.

It seems Election Day should be a holiday as it falls right into the season.

Our Sports Journal is back of course. I enjoy those pages a lot. New Britain sports are so important to our community. There is nothing like rooting for your home team. New Britain High School football is improving every week. We are glad to share with your special insight.

Our website poll has not changed. I think it is an important question. It will stay up a bit longer. The question is “Which item do you want to see as a priority for our next mayor?” Education is winning slightly over New Business and Keeping Taxes Low. Place your vote at www.nbcityjournal.com.

I found several very funny things on Facebook this week. I narrowed it to one though.

“A real woman keeps her house clean and organized. Her laundry basket is always empty. She’s always well dressed, hair done. She never swears, she behaves gracefully in all situations and circumstances. She has more than enough patience to take care of her family, always has a smile on her lips and a kind word for everyone. Post this if you have just realized you might be a man.”

Until next week, keep smiling and read YOUR #1 Weekly Newspaper!
