Still time to enjoy a few day trips before summer is over. The library has passes to borrow for visits to several Connecticut sights at a discount or for free.

Enjoy the animals at Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, the Children’s Museum in West Hartford or the Youth Museum at Hungerford in Berlin. Learn about marine life at the Mystic Aquarium. Visit a clipper ship or go on a space age road trip at Kidcity Children’s Museum in Middletown. For children, ages 2 to 10, there is the Imagine Nation Museum in Bristol with hands-on and interactive exhibits.

Or perhaps you are an art lover. In that case there is the New Britain Museum of American Art or Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford. Take a trip back in time and visit Mark Twain’s house in Hartford and learn about the famous author, his family, and the historic house.

Beach day? Borrow the State Park Pass which may be used at all the major state parks with parking fees, including Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, Sherwood Island State Park in Westport or Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme. The pass also provides free entrance to any museum located at a state park such as Dinosaur State Park in Rocky Hill, Fort Trumbull State Park in New London and Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam.

There are thirteen passes available at the library. Passes are borrowed with a library card, a second form of ID and a $20 deposit which is returned when the pass is returned. Each pass can be used once a day and borrowed once during a month. They can be picked up on Tuesday and returned on Friday or picked up on Friday for a return on Monday. Reserve them in advance to be sure to get them. Call the Children’s Department at 860-224-3155 ext. 121 for more information.
