The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays of the year. If nothing happens to keep the “Big Boom” celebration and fireworks alive, I will truly be disappointed.

I will head to Hartford for their fireworks celebration, but it will not be the same. My annual picnic, built around the celebration, will be canceled. I hope your plans are better for the day.

Enough doom and gloom. Let’s talk about the weather. Do you like it? It sure beats snow everyday.

Well, the New Britain TRIAD has been trying to collect fans for seniors. And, so far no one has donated any. Please read our briefs section on page 11 for more information on the needs and help a senior out. A brutal summer is approaching.

Have you ever wondered why we have two little leagues? I did, so I questioned those involved. Read page 1 to find out the answer and a bit of history. Personally, I would like to see them combined. But I think it should be fair for both sides.

I bet kids are happy to see pools and the splash pad open this year. It would have been a shame not to see kids in the water this year.

Next weekend is the 19th Annual Klingberg Motorcar Festival. There truly is something for everyone at it, so do not miss it.

Our City Health page has an interesting article this week on caring for the caregiver. If you are a caregiver, be sure to read it on page 5.

Did you miss NB Polish Life last week? I sure did. This week Diane L. Mechlinski brings us more great news in page 6.

If you get a chance, stop by the Arts MiniMarket at the Downtown Gallery this weekend. Get some amazing art pieces at great prices.

Next weekend take the opportunity to welcome the new New Britain High School football coach Tebucky Jones. A Wine & Beer Tasting event is planned at the VFW. Read page 8 for more.

I’ve always liked bananas, but never knew there was so much that can be done with them. I’m not sure if I want bananas in my meatloaf or not. Check out page 9 for fun recipes.

I found another nostalgic saying on Facebook this week. It made my Funny Thought of the week.

“On cable TV they have the Weather channel where you can watch the weather 24 hours a day. Growing up, we had something like that. It was called a window.”

It’s amazing how times change, isn’t it? I still believe what I see out the window more than any weather forecaster.

Until next week, enjoy the weather, stay out of the heat and keep reading YOUR #1 Weekly Newspaper!
