Oktoberfest Important for City

Many residents say there isn’t anything to do in New Britain. This September, Oktoberfest will change that for at least one weekend.

This event, under the guidance of Nick Augustino and Avner Krohn, as part of their organization Plan So Grand, is an event that could put the City in the spotlight. Hopes are for 30,000-50,000 people from across the state to attend. Those numbers are wild.

The first year it certainly will be hard to garnish that much attention. But, with these two in charge, who knows?

It will be a chance for a good time with business to business, arts and crafts, beer and food, a car show and entertainment. There is definitely something for everyone.

And the number of events isn’t completed yet. According to Augustino, this is just the beginning. I can’t imagine what he will think of next. I am sure though, it will be magnificent.

It’s also a perfect way to show off our downtown and its future. By September our police station will actually look like something more than a hole in the ground. And in 2014 the Busway will be built bringing more people into downtown.

It would be nice to see the event rival Southington’s Applefest in popularity. It seems everyone goes to that event. It’s time New Britain had a large event to call its own.

New Britain’s revitalization starts with events like this one. We are truly on our way to great things. Watch out Connecticut. New Britain is gaining momentum!
