I’m not one to focus on national news, but I was outraged by Roseanne Barr’s comments this week on twitter. I will not repeat them because they were racist and uncalled for.

I didn’t realize how racist this country has become until the last few years. Shame on me. I guess many people hid it until recently when it seemed to become okay in this country to be racist.

I feel it is not okay to be racist. It’s terrible what this country is becoming. We all must fight in our own way against such behavior. If you hear such language, let someone know it is not okay. It should not become the norm.

I guess that is the end of my rant for this week. Now, onto what is happening in our City.

Did you like the Memorial Day Parade? Other than The Great American Boom, this is one of the biggest events in the City. Someone told me we used to have a Columbus Day Parade. I thought we had at least two when I was growing up.

I hope you also took time to honor our veterans, especially those who died defending our country. This day really honors and thanks them for their duty.

My dad served in World War II and I am especially proud of him on these special days.

DMTS Radio opened its doors on Saturday. This should really be a boost for the City. We wish Devione Tanksley well on this great project. Read story on page 2.

Our Question of the Month was “Should Residents be able to vote on the City budget?” I raised this question as some surrounding towns do vote. I believe residents cannot vote on a budget because everyone wants lower taxes. Sometimes it is not possible. Residents would never be happy. See story on page 3.

In business this week we took a look at A Yankee Peddler on Main St. We are hoping to highlight many City businesses. See story on page 6.

Please do not miss our Where to Eat section. Tell these businesses where you saw their ad. Take the section out for future reference. It is on pages 8-11.

Time for my joke of the week.

What’s the difference between a hippo and a Zippo?

One is really heavy, and the other is a little lighter.

Until next week find a good place to eat and keep reading New Britain’s #1 Most Trusted Newspaper!
