Top 10 Winners 2017 New Britain/Berlin Winners Announced

Throughout the year the City Journal posted many Top 10 categories for New Britain and Berlin. Members of the New Britain City Journal Facebook group were invited to vote for their favorites.

On pages 2 and 3 are photographs of the first place winners in each category.

Here is a brief recap of the 2017 winners.

On Jan. 12 was the top Asian Restaurants you must try. Winning that category was Great Taste, 597 West Main St, New Britain. To it’s admirers, Great Taste is considered one of the most “delicious” and “hospitable” multi-regional Chinese restaurants in the state.”

On Feb. 16, The Whole Donut, 1198 Farmington Ave., Berlin, took home the Best Coffee, Expresso or Cappuccino. It won by a landslide.

On March 16, Willie Peps Corner Cafe, 366 Farmington Ave. New Britain won Best Salad. Unfortunately, since then it has gone out of business.

On April 20 Staropolska, 252 Broad St., New Britain was easily the first place winner as best Polish food. It’s the perfect place for everybody who has never experienced true Polish cuisine.

Liquor Depot, 687 West Main St., New Britain took first place in a close competition for Best Liquor Store on May 11. Readers said it has a full selection of wine and a very large selection of other items including local and craft beer.

On July 6 the Top Delicatessen went to Angelo’s Market, 349 West Main St., New Britain. There are over 35 sandwiches you can get at the deli as well as the top meats. Pizza pies, salads and soups are also available.

On Aug 3 readers named Roma Sports Bar and Restaurant, 382 Allen St., New Britain to the Number 1 spot of bars to hangout. Roma is not just a Restaurant, not just a Sports Bar. Roma is a place to feel comfortable with old friends and new. At Roma, it’s all the games all the time!

On Sept. 7 the Best Place to get a chicken meal went to Krispy Krunchy Chicken, 687 Arch St., New Britain. This is fried chicken at it’s best.

The best place to get French Fries was awarded Oct. 5 and it went to Riley’s Hot Dog & Burger Gourmet, 61 Glen St., New Britain. It utilizes local meats, fresh ingredients, unique toppings, and family recipes to create innovative and enjoyable dining experiences for hot dog enthusiasts and hamburger connoisseurs alike.

Best Latin place to eat went to Criollisimo, 240 Arch St., New Britain on Nov. 9. Criollisimo is a consistent winner of best Puerto Rican food in the State and takes best Latin Style in the City.
