It’s coming to the time of year when it is easy to lose sight of the meaning of the holidays.

With the hustle and bustle of getting ready, the stress and demands on your time might detract your attention from the important ones in your lives. Instead, let the library bring some merry to your day, help you with the holiday preparation and make this time a bit less hectic.

The library has just the way to put you in the holiday mood with local community groups. On Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m.., catch the holiday spirit and sign along with the CCARC Singers who will be bringing their holiday cheer to the library. On Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m., the library presents Caroling with the Girl Scouts. Enjoy young voices singing familiar tunes. And on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 11:30 a.m., The Madrigal Singers from New Britain High School will share songs of the season as they stroll through the library. Guaranteed, you will be feeling festive after hearing these talented singers and as a bonus, enjoy a moment to unwind. For the kids, the Hampstead Stage Company will present A Christmas Carol on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m.

The library can help in other ways, too. Take a break in your day to relax with a classic Christmas movie, a novel or CD of holiday music borrowed from the library’s collection. To help with the holiday preparation, there are plenty of magazines and books to borrow with ideas of recipes, decorating and crafts. Make your own cards and homemade gifts that will be sure to please. Make some simple crafts with your kids, too.

We can even help with your shopping! The Friends of the Library will be having their 2nd annual Holiday Pop-up Sale on Saturday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Gently used books, stocking stuffers, greeting cards and delicious home baked goodies will be available at reasonable prices and all proceeds help support your library.

The gift of your time is the most valuable gift you can give to those around you. There is no easier way to spend quality time at the end of your busy day than by cuddling with your kids and reading a bedtime story. Be sure to make it a priority during this busy time. The rewards are priceless. And don’t forget yourself, wind down your busy day and escape with a good novel to take your own cares away.

The library staff and board wish you and your family, happy and healthy holidays. Let the merry begin!
