Halloween is getting here quickly. Tonight is our Halloween Pizza Party Fundraiser. We need to raise at the least $5,000 for the event. Please consider coming to the fundraiser on Thursday, Oct 19 at 6 p.m. at Grand Pizza, 136 Main St. Cost is $10 per person and includes pizza and beverages. Of course, we have a great raffle as well. All money goes toward the NB Halloween Safe Zone downtown on Halloween night. See more about the main event on page 1.

This week on page 1 also focused on the debate held Saturday be the League of Women Voters at Trinity on Main. It was an interesting debate. Candidates brought up interesting issues. I was disappointed some of the same questions were asked of Council candidates over and over.

Mayoral candidate answers were very interesting. I think Election Night is going to be quite exciting.

Be sure to read the page 1 story as I tried to highlight the answers from all three candidates.

We also have Ward 5 candidates on page 4 this week. Next week we will have Alderman at Large and the following week will be the Mayoral candidates.

On page 2 is a story about the opening of Columbus Commons. This was a project Mayor Erin Stewart worked really hard on. Her vision and excitement for this project was really evident in most of the speakers. It could really be a big stepping stone for our downtown.

And on page 3 we brought to you feelings about a big issue in the Country. Thoughts on standing for the National Anthem are strong on both sides of the aisle. It was a tough subject, but an interesting one. I ended up deleting the post as it started to get hostile. Everyone is entitled to their opinion without ridicule. I knew it was going to be difficult when I asked the question on facebook. Please join The New Britain City Journal group on facebook to participate in the next question of the month.

This week we have quite a few letters to the editor on this page. We have two more weeks until election. Please email me your letters. I will do my best to get every one in the paper. Public opinion is the most important thing in this paper. Send them to nbcityjournal@yahoo.com.

This week I have a joke that is a good fit for Halloween.

Why do demons and ghouls get along so well?

Demons are a ghouls best friend.

Until next week, buy your girlfriend a demon or not, and keep reading New Britain’s #1 Most Trusted Newspaper!
