Only a few more weeks to Halloween. We are certainly having the Halloween Safe Zone this year from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. downtown on Oct. 31.

A lot more news to come, but first please plan on attending our Halloween Pizza Party so we can raise funds for the event. It is on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 6-9 p.m. at Grand Pizza on Main St. in the back room. It is a $10 donation and you get yummy pizza. Also there will be raffle prizes.

We need to raise $6,000-$10,000 so this helps a lot. We also need trunk or treaters to hand out candy. Email me at nbcityjournal@yahoo.com if interested.

Also donations of candy can be brought to the Downtown District, 66 West Main St. We hand out over 60,000 pieces of candy.

This week in the paper we see that Bike New Britain will have a space downtown. It is a great organization. I am glad to see them work with the City. See page 1.

Also on page 1 is an article on a City gem in Ace Livingston. He is another great talent who lives in New Britain.

Our top 10 best French Fries spots is on page 2. Riley Gourmet wins for their Cajun Fries. Congrats!

Also beginning this week is candidate profiles. They are on pages 3 and 4. We started with Ward 1 and 2 and will bring you more until the election. Read them to help in the voting process. A big thanks to all candidates who took part.

I was so saddened this week about the events in Las Vegas. Every week there seems to be another tragedy. I am still mourning for those in Puerto Rico and now Las Vegas. What is this world coming to?

I must admit that I believe guns should be legal. But, not ones that can kill numbers of people in a minute. A rifle or a shot gun are one thing. These large capacity machines are another thing and should be illegal. They are not necessary unless you are in the military. The public should not be entitled to own one.

Time for my joke this week.

Boy: Man, every time I listen to “Come Sail Away” or “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” my earbuds get all staticky, but they’re fine when I play “Turn! Turn! Turn!”

Girl: Styx and Stones may break your ‘phones, but Byrds will never hurt you!

Until next week listen to good music and keep reading New Britain’s Number 1 most Trusted Newspaper!
