Mayor Erin E. Stewart and Building Hope Together Co-Chair Peter Niro invite the public to attend the Autumn Soiree: a fundraiser for New Britain’s Work Plan to End Homelessness. The event will feature an awards ceremony honoring individuals and/or organizations that have made an impact on reducing homelessness in New Britain. Cocktails and hors d’oueuvres will be served.

The suggested donation is $50 per person and can be purchased at https://tinyurl.com/NBBuildingHope

Over the last several years, the event has raised thousands of dollars to help homeless individuals with emergency supply kits, transportation needs, shelter, and other needs.

Businesses or organizations interested in purchasing an ad for the program book or sponsoring the event should contact the Mayor’s Office at 860-826-3303.

Building Hope Together got its started in 2007 when former Mayor Timothy Stewart brought together members of area churches, the business community, social service agencies, government and others out of an urgent need to find shelter for struggling and homeless individuals during the winter. It was known as the Mayor’s Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness, based off of a nationwide model.

Since then, Building Hope Together: New Britain’s Permanent Work Plan to End Homelessness has helped move hundreds of individuals off the streets and into stable housing. The work plan has provided transportation vouchers, donated personal needs, provided job training and connected individuals with services they need to get back on their feet. In 2016, chronic family homelessness was eliminated in New Britain.

“While we have made amazing progress, we know our work is not done,” said Mayor Stewart. “This event draws attention to a difficult issue that takes many community partners to solve. We are fortunate as a City to have a wide range of resources and compassionate individuals who are willing to step up and help out those who need a helping hand.”

WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 12 5 to 7 p.m.

WHERE: New Britain City Hall – 2nd Floor – 27 West Main Street.
