The budget for 2017-18 passed this week with no tax increase. It wasn’t much of a meeting as everything seemed to go along party lines.

I have to say I was disappointed that Democratic Alderpersons Manny Sanchez and Shirley Black voted against it, yet didn’t speak during the meeting as to why. This is their opportunity. If you place a vote without explaining it, it comes off as party politics. If you have a complaint, this is the time to air it. Don’t air it privately. Tell the public your complaints. We deserve to know.

Being an Aquinas graduate I am very interested in hearing about the latest on the project. I am hoping it will begin next year. On page 1, we update you with all the info we know. Be sure to read it.

Isn’t technology amazing? Check out on page 1 all the new programs being brought to you for graduation this year. If you don’t attend you can still see it live from various angles. What will they come up with next?

Tuesday was so exciting at Holmes School. The kids were super energetic. It is nice to see the students get a new playground. Mayor Erin Stewart told me she was even more excited than the kids. See story on page 2.

I have to admit it being there kind of made me miss grade school. That was a great time for most of us.

My joke found on Facebook this week is kind of long.

At the end of his course on mathematical methods in optimization, the professor sternly looks at his students and says: “There is one final piece of advice I’m going to give you now: Whatever you have learned in my course – never ever try to apply it to your personal lives!”

“Why?” the students ask.

“Well, some years ago, I observed my wife preparing breakfast, and I noticed that she wasted a lot of time walking back and forth in the kitchen. So, I went to work, optimized the whole procedure, and told my wife about it.”

“And what happened?!”

“Before I applied my expert knowledge, my wife needed about half an hour to prepare breakfast for the two of us. And now, it takes me less than fifteen minutes…”

If you are going to criticize, then do it yourself.
