Memorial Day is such a somber holiday as we honor those who have died fighting for this country. The Memorial Day Parade is a joyous way of honoring our veterans.

The parade this year seemed longer than in recent years. I enjoyed the school bands as well as seeing all the veterans and civic organizations. I wish the crowd was bigger, but several people stated on Facebook they were staying home due to the cold weather.

I was able to get a Dunkin Donuts coffee and keep warm.

Before the parade began, the parks and recreation department had a trivia contest. Winners won free tickets to the Bees. I knew all the answers because most are things that have been in the paper. I was surprised how many people did not know the answers. Keep reading the City Journal and I guarantee you can answer them all next year.

The City and Greater Chamber of Commerce will soon be putting out the 2017 Visitors Guide. It will be ready in July. They print 1,000 copies and they are distributed from the mayor’s office. The chamber of commerce and economic development office are highlighting all the great things New Britain has to offer. It should be a really nice piece. Last year’s was fantastic.

Skateboarders should be happy to learn renovations are occurring at Stanley Quarter Park. I went down there and it is a mess. There certainly was not a big crowd wanting to use the facilities. See more about the improvements and the possibility of a new park on page 1.

It seems residents are still mad at the Hartford Yard Goats. Our Question of the week involved the Bees and the Yard Goats. Most residents do plan on visiting a Bees game this summer. New Britain is buzzing.

Don’t you just love budget time? The City has a budget, but the State does not. Mayor Erin Stewart has made adjustments so that if the City is cut up to 10 percent by the State, we can still manage. The State needs to get its act together. It should not take this long for a budget. Who knows if we will have one by the end of June. The Governor and state representatives need to do a better job. I’m disgusted.

Time for a blonde joke.

“ A blonde goes to work in tears. Her boss asks, “What’s wrong?”

She says, “My mom died.”

He told her to go home, but she said, “No, I’ll be fine.”

Later that day, her boss finds her crying again. He says, “What’s wrong?”

She replies, “I just talked to my sister, and her mom died, too!”

Until next week blondes should dye their hair brunette and keep reading reading New Britain’s #1 Most Trusted Newspaper!
