I’m so happy to have no mill rate increase. Of course I would love a decrease, but I doubt that will ever happen.

I think this is a good budget. It looks to be one that keeps the services and events we need.

There is new money coming in from the Grand List and old taxes finally being collected. Things are growing in the City every day. The unemployment rate is going down and new businesses are coming into New Britain.

The new bridge will be worked on this year as well as many roads paved. So many good things are happening in this City. How much more can we ask for?

How about this? We have a new restaurant coming into town. The Hardware City Cafe will soon open at the former Cafe Beauregard. Food will be cooked by Isaac Silva of the West Side Tavern. If you have not tried his cooking you will be amazed. He is the best chef I know. I’m excited for the trio of owners. I expect great things. See story on page 1.

Avery’s Beverages is toying with the idea of expanding. Their soda is really outstanding and the company can’t grow fast enough. Owner Rob Metz has done an amazing job with the business. It’s absolutely my favorite soda. See story on page 3.

Last week I mentioned that I was waiting for April the giraffe to give birth. I am still waiting. It’s beginning to feel like a hoax.

Did you know you can advertise your business on our Facebook group page? We have about 2,700 members and costs are only $10 per post. If you take an advertisement in the paper you can advertise in the group once a month for free.

It’s that time you have been waiting for. It’s my newest joke found on Facebook.

Walking up to a department store’s fabric counter, the pretty girl said, “I would like to buy this material for my new dress. How much does it cost?”

“Only one kiss per yard,” replied the male clerk with a smirk on his face.

“That’s fine,” said the girl. “I’ll take ten yards.”

With expectation and anticipation written all over his face, the clerk quickly measured out the cloth, wrapped it up, then teasingly held it out.

The girl snapped up the package, pointed to the old man behind her, and smiled, “Grandpa’s gonna pay the bill.”

I did not see that one coming.
