Baseball season is only a few weeks away. I can hardly believe it. I am really looking to baseball once the Yankees are back on Comcast in May.
This year it is all about rookies and second year players.
The latest projected line-up follows:
Brett Gardner (OF)
Didi Gregorius (SS)
Gary Sanchez (C)
Matt Holiday (DH)
Greg Bird (1B)
Starlin Castro (2B)
Chase Headley (3B)
Aaron Judge (OF)
Jacoby Ellsbury (OF)
Finally, we have a fairly young team. I would still like to see Ellsbury traded, but he has a hefty contract.
I would then put Holliday in right field and DH Christ Carter. Carter hit 41 home runs last year and is sitting in the bench.
Sanchez is definitely a key to the offense. He is the best player on this team.
Other bench players include Aaron Hicks, Tyler Austin, Ronald Torreyes, Rob Refsnyder, Mason Williams and Austin Romine. I like all of them and can see them all as starters in baseball on teams one day.
As far as pitching goes, I like Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda. Luis Severino could be good one day. CC Sabathia has seen better days.
We all know how good Aroldis Chapman is as a closer.
How do the Yankees compare? I have them fighting the Red Sox all season for first place in the American League East. At the worst, I predict a wild card spot for the Bombers.
(Next week I will look at who will win each division and the World Series.)
