Top 10 Salads in New Britain/Berlin

The New Britain City Journal Facebook group voted last week on the best salads in New Britain and Berlin. Many restaurants received votes. Here are the Top 10.
- Willie Peps Corner Cafe, 366 Farmington Ave. New Britain, offers five salads on it’s menu. They are The Featherweight, The TKO, The Hook, The Welterweight and The Miami Trainer. You can add on chicken, salmon, steak or shrimp. Several people recommended the blackened wild caught shrimp on the Featherweight. Reader’s made Willie Pep’s the winner of Best Salad in New Britain and Berlin.
- Max Pizza II, 79 Shuttle Meadow Ave, New Britain comes in at Number Two. Readers said every salad is crisp and fresh. Their special salad is Max’s Salad. It comes with ham, turkey, Genoa and cooked salami, pepperoni, pickles, eggs, and cheese. Include lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, onions, olives and pepperoncini.
- Town and Country Pizza Restaurant, 685 Farmington Ave. in New Britain came in third. Readers loved the Caesar Salad as well as the House Salad. They also have a Chef Salad, Tuna Salad, Antipasto Salad and Greek Salad.
- Angelo’s Market, 349 West Main St.in New Britain serves almost 20 different types of salad. A few special ones include Buffalo Chicken Salad, Spinach Salad, Cold Italian Octopus Salad, Italian Shrimp Salad and Fresh Mozzarella Salad. An Italian deli that serves it all.
- Catanzaro’s Quality Meats, 550 Farmington Ave in New Britain is best known for Joe’s Famous Salad. It includes mixed greens, pickled beets, candied walnuts, cranberries and goat cheese. They also have a great Chef Salad and garden salad. You can add chicken as well.
- Bella Pizza, 41 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin has nine different salads. They include Caesar Salad, Chef Salad, Antipasto Salad, Tuna Salad, Greek Salad, Crispy Chicken Salad, Grilled Chicken Salad and Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad.
- West Side Tavern, 586 West Main St. in New Britain offers two salads. There is a Caesar Salad and a Salad Outono. Salad Outono comes with romaine and red lettuce leafs with pears, apples, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, dried cranberries and walnuts in a house made avocado ranch dressing topped with shrimp.
- Central Pizza, 96 Mill St., Berlin serves salads along with Italian dinners. Readers recommend the Chicken or the Tuna Salad.
- Roma Restaurant, 382 Allen St. has a large menu of salads. A few include Apple Walnut, BBQ Chicken Ranch Salad, Grilled Pineapple and Cajun Shrimp, and The Roma Cobb Salad.
- Portofino’s, 246 New Britain Rd, Berlin finishes out the top 10. Some salads at Portofino’s include Ahi Tuna Salad and Antipasto Salad and Greek Salad.
