I hope everyone had the chance to check out our website at www.nbcityjournal.com last week. We had a problem with our poll question function so some answers were deleted. Feel free to vote again. A new question will be out soon.
It was nice to see temperatures in the 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday after months of complaining about snow and freezing temperatures. Don’t worry; soon we all will be complaining about the heat.
This week’s edition of the New Britain City Journal is a fun one. We have stories on page one concerning the past and future of downtown. I’m hoping a look at the past as a prelude to what the future can hold. I’m tired of all the pessimism about New Britain. We have a lot to look forward to in our future. Those that see it, know it is coming.
Perhaps, a look at what it was like will help to bring new ideas into the City.
I always say I believe in this City. As a child growing up here I never wanted to live anywhere else. New Britain was a true hub and can be again.
One of my goals for starting this paper was to help New Britain flourish again. I still believe we can do that. The Busway Project looks to be helping the City move forward in the right direction. I’m actually very excited about our future. I expect big things to start in the next two years. We’ll have to watch and see together if I am right.
Enough about my excitement. What else is in this week’s edition?
On page one we are taking a look at Fascinators! Many remember these from the past, but with Princess Kate wearing them on occasion they may become a new fad.
On page 2 is our organization story on a Polish Poetry group.
The New Britain Health Department fills us in on a City Wide Baby Shower on page 6.
New art programs are opening. Read all about it on page 10.
A few recipes perfect for Cinco de Mayo are on page 11. My sister-in-law is Mexican and gave me these family recipes.
We have photos thanks to Paul Salina of the CCARC Fashion Show on page 12.
And of course we have our regular columns and articles.
Always read and support our advertisers as they make the New Britain City Journal possible. Tell them you saw their ad in our paper.
My joke of the week found on Facebook is: Move over weight watchers diet. There is a new way to lose weight. It’s called the “I can’t afford to buy food because I filled up my tank with gas” Diet!
Isn’t that the truth?
Now sit down and relax and enjoy YOUR free weekly newspaper!
