One of my favorite events of the year happened this week in the City’s Commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. He was such an important man in our country. His contributions and words should never be forgotten. Please keep him in your mind daily.

The City Journal does not very often cover deaths, but I cannot help but mentioning the death of board of education member Judy Greco. She was a phenomenal woman who did so much for our City.

The following info on her was supplied by the board of education.

“In the early 1960s, Judy walked into Smalley School and from that point forward, she made it her life mission to serve the children of New Britain. She taught at Smalley until 1973, when she was hired as a guidance counselor at Roosevelt Junior High School. In that decade, she also served as a counselor at Pulaski High School and interim principal at Roosevelt Junior High School. In 1981, she became the first female housemaster (assistant principal) at New Britain High School. In 1989, she was hired as the principal of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and would serve there until 1995, when she retired. In 2009, she was elected to the New Britain Board of Education, where she served until her passing.”

My thoughts go out to her family and friends. She will be missed. Please say a prayer for her.

Have you noticed developers are more interested in property in the City? Well, they are. On page 1 we wrote a bit about the Bennett Building on Arch St. The New Britain Latino Coalition is excited about this venture. It is another improvement to our City.

I can’t wait until more buildings are completed. Our future looks great. Keep up the good work New Britain!

Chances are good you have purchased gas at City Gas on South St. Learn a little more about the owner on page 2.

I asked a loaded question about Friday’s Presidential Inauguration to our Facebook group. Although we had some arguments, we had a lot of good responses. See the questions and answers on page 3. Be sure to join the New Britain City Journal Facebook group to voice your opinions.

Time for my Facebook joke of the week.

“Did you ever wake up the person sleeping beside you and feel glad that you are alive? I just did and apparently will not be allowed on this airline again.”

Did you see that coming?

Until next week, be careful who you wake up and keep reading New Britain’s #1 Most Trusted Newspaper!
