Avery’s Beverages Presidential Race

When it comes to predicting the winner of the Presidential Race, Avery’s Beverages, 520 Corbin Ave., has it’s own method.
It has been selling Trump Tonic and Hillary Hooch. It keeps track of how many are purchased as a way of predicting a winner. As of Sept. 24 Trump Tonic is winning by a vote of 32,400 to 29,800.
“She closed the gap,” said Rob Metz, owner of Avery’s. “We haven’t tracked write-in candidates much, but they are about 1 percent.”
The store has done this in the past and President Barack Obama has won both times. This one, however, is a little different.
“Being a blue state it was a no-brainer,” said Metz. “A lot of Trump purchases are coming from stuff we are shipping out to other parts of the country. A lot of folks are buying one of each just for the novelty of it.”
The flavor for the Trump Tonic is ‘Make America GRAPE Again’. “This is not your typical grape soda” says Metz, “the flavor is bold, brash and very acidic”.
The Hillary Hooch flavor is marked ‘CLASSIFIED’ on the label. “The Hillary flavor is a bit more complex” Metz said, “it has a combination of raspberry and strawberry with a hint of lemon for some bitterness.”
Stew Leonard’s has bought a lot of the drinks and they have bought more Trump than Hillary, but a representative said sales are about the same.
“It has been dead even. We are restocking both all the time,” said Meghan Bell, director of public relations. “We don’t know if it is dead even because people have been buying one of each. Sales have been strong. It’s been a great seller. We are happy to have it in the store.”
Avery’s Presidential sodas will be available at the bottling plant on Corbin Ave in New Britain, at Stew Leonard’s in Newington, Capitol Lunch in New Britain and at other select retailers in Central Connecticut. Straw poll results and a selection of the write-in labels will be posted on the Avery’s Soda Facebook page.
Avery’s Beverages LLC is the oldest independent soda bottling company in Connecticut. Avery’s bottles and sells premium old-fashioned soda with local distribution throughout Central Connecticut.
