Family Fun - Fairies

In honor of our upcoming event in Volunteer Park on Farmington Ave in Berlin we have created fairies this week!
Berlin will be treated to a month of faeries in September. Many of our residents and friends have been working hard to see if we might invite some of these fun and mischievous beings to our little town park. We’ve built little houses and cottages and gardens in an effort to entice a sighting or two of these tiny beings. This week we create little fairies to decorate and play with in our gardens.
Materials:
Old fashioned clothes pins
Silk flowers
Small beads, buttons decorations
Wahsi tape
Sharpie - for drawing the face
Acrylic paint if you would like to paint your clothes pin before you begin
Glue gun
How to:
If you like paint your clothes pin before you begin. Let dry. Grab your bunch of silk flowers and seperate out a large flower. You will need to take the flower apart. I used 2 layers of the purple flower. The small hole in the middle of the flower can be cut with scissors to enlarge the opening enough to slide over your clothes pin. Using your glue gun run a bead of glue around her waist. Slide the first layer of the flower down on to this line of glue. Run another bead of glue around the top of that layer and and slide another layer of your flower to the glue. I used a bit of Wahsi tape to use as her shirt and cover the join where the flower top met the clothes pin. Another way we demonstrate in this photo is to use a bit of a feather boa.
Your fairy is almost done! I used a few leaves on her back to make wings. To decorate the back I added a small button. The glue gun made this quick to secure.
Time to work on her head! My flower had a center that worked perfectly for her hat. I did add a couple small flowers from a different bouquet. I chose not to draw a face on mine but a fine black sharpie makes it easy for a child to draw on some eyes and a smile.
We invite you to visit Fiddlehead Fern Fairy Village in Volunteer park from September 1 to September 30. On weekends there may be some activities in the gazebo for the children. This event is free and open to the public. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook for more details.
